Men’s Indoor Track & Field Takes Part In Macalester Pre-MIAC Meet Posted on February 23rd, 2013 by

St. Paul – Competing on Friday night on the Clement Track at the Leonard Center, the Gustavus Adolphus men’s indoor track and field team took part in its final warm-up competition before the 2013 MIAC Championships at the Macalester Pre-MIAC Meet.

Pacing the Gusties with victories at the unscored meet was Phillip Butler (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) on the track, and Josh Owens (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Blair Riegel (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.), and Ryan Obele (Jr., Le Sueur, Minn.) in the field events.  Butler crossed the finish line first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.10.  Owens cleared 15-feet 5-inches to win the pole vault, and Riegel recorded a mark of 45-feet 5.25-inches to win the triple jump.  Obele won the weight throw with a toss of 52-feet 3.75-inches and also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 44-feet 6.75-inches.

On the track, Kendrick Hall (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) recorded two finishes on the podium.  He finished second behind Butler in the 60-meter with a time of 7.18 and placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.23.

Eric Jorgenson (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) also came in runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.54.  Sam Fransen (Jr., Jackson, Minn.) placed third in the 1000-meter run (2:42.43), and Joseph Renier (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) added a third in the mile (4:30.20).

Gusties dominated the podium in the pole vault as Cameron Clause (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) placed second behind Owens with a mark of 14-feet 11-inches, and Jeffrey Dubose (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) took third after clearing 13-feet 5.25-inches.  Clause also added a second place finished in the long jump after a leap of 21-feet 1.25-inches.

The Gustavus indoor track and field teams will now gear up for the 2013 MIAC Indoor set to take place next weekend at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.  The meet will begin on Friday, March 1 and conclude on Saturday, March 2.  The MIAC Multis will take place on Thursday, Feb. 28 before the conference meet begins.
