St. Paul, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team shut out Hamline by the final score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Warner Coliseum.  The Gusties got a goal in the first period from Courtney Boucher (So., Hastings, Minn.) and another in the second by Jenna Christensen (Sr., Albert Lea, Minn.) to take a 2-0 lead, where it would stay for the rest of the afternoon.  With the win, Gustavus remains unbeaten with a record of 18-0-0 (12-0-0 MIAC), while Hamline drops to 5-10-4 (2-8-2 MIAC).

After scoring a goal :29 seconds into the game a night ago, the Gusties got another goal in the first period on Saturday afternoon.  Courtney Boucher scored her fourth goal of the season at the 11:08 mark of the opening period to put the Gusties on top 1-0.  Neither team would score for the remainder of the first 20 minutes and the two squads went to their respective locker rooms for the first intermission with the score 1-0.

The scoring log showed a similar second period.  Gustavus got on the scoreboard for the second time midway through the second thanks to Jenna Christensen’s fourth goal of the year.  The goal pushed the Gustie lead to 2-0, which is where it would stay for the remainder of the afternoon as Gustavus skated to the two-goal victory.

For Christensen, it was the second point on the weekend after recording an assist in last night’s contest.  The senior has now recorded at least a point in five of the last six games for the Gusties.  Over that span, Christensen has achieved an even three goals and three assists.  She has amassed a total of 12 points (4G, 8A) on the season, which ranks fourth on the team.

The Gusties held the Pipers to just eight shots on the afternoon, compared to 54 of their own.  Tara Hoverstad (Fy., Coon Rapids, Minn.) got her second shutout in net for Gustavus.  The first-year goalie is now 6-0-0 on the season.

Gustavus will be back in on the ice Tuesday, Feb. 5th for a match-up with UW-Superior in Superior, Wis.  Opening face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
