Cross Country Set To Compete At Saint John’s Invitational Posted on September 7th, 2012 by

The Gustavus men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Collegeville, Minn., Saturday to compete in the Saint John’s Invitational held on the campus of Saint John’s University.  The men’s race is set to start at 10:30 a.m.  The women will race an hour later, starting at 11:30 a.m.

The Gustavus men will look to follow up last year’s third place finish with a similar result on Saturday.  Dillon Emo (So., Brookings, S.D.) is the leading returner from last year’s race.  He finished the 8k run in 28:13, good enough to place him 13th.

Expected to race on the men’s side are Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes Concordia and the host school Saint John’s, as well as St. Cloud State and Valley City State.

On the women’s side, it is much the same for the Gusties.  The Gustie women finished third out of eight teams at the Saint John’s Invitational last season, and will look for a similar fate on Saturday.  Gustavus had three returners finish in the top 20 in last year’s race.  Beth Hauer (Sr., Little Falls, Minn.) led the way, finishing seventh with a time of 24:16.  Rebecca Hare (Jr., Albany, Minn.) took 12th, crossing the line in 25:05, and Caitlin Fermoyle (So., Mendota Heights, Minn.) finished 19th in 25:35.

The women’s field will include Concordia, Saint Benedict, St. Cloud State, Valley City State, and Macalester.
