The Gustavus women’s golf team wrapped up its 2011 spring regular season by winning the UW-Eau Claire Invitational, which was played at Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire, Wis.  The Gusties posted an 18-hole total of 334 to finish ahead of host UW-Eau Claire (336) by two shots.  Individually, Gustavus was led by junior Ann Jackson who finished in a tie for fourth with a score of 82.  The 10-team tournament was originally scheduled to be a 36-hole invitational, however cold and rainy conditions on Saturday forced the event to be halted after the first 18 holes.

Balance was a key for the Gusties as all five competitors placed in the top 15 out of a field of 57.  Jackson’s round of 82, was followed by Katie Schenfeld (8th, 83), Taylor Drenttel (9th tie, 84), Rikka Holiday (11th tie, 85) and Kayleigh Dittes (15th, 86).  Two Gustavus golfers competed independently and they were Nicole Tetrault (26th tie, 90) and Jessica Skaare (48th tie, 98).

Coach Scott Moe’s squad will now turn its attention to the NCAA Championships, which will take place May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort and Golf Club in Howey in the Hills, Florida (Orlando area).  The Gusties automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships by winning the MIAC Championships last October.  This will be the sixth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships for the Gustavus women’s golf team.  The Gusties posted a second place finish last year.
