Men’s Track and Field Wins Carleton’s Meet Of Hearts Posted on February 14th, 2011 by

The Gustavus men’s track and field team captured first place in six events while posting a team score of 181 to win Carleton’s Meet of Hearts on Saturday, February 12, in Northfield. Blair Riegel led the Gusties, winning three events on the day.

Riegel took home first-place honors in the 200-meter dash (22.84), long jump (21.23 feet), and triple jump (44.32 feet). Other Gustie first-place finishers included Tanner Davenport in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.00, the 4 x 200-meter relay team with 1:31.56, and Josh Owens in pole vault with a mark of 15.03 feet.

Other top Gustavus finishes on the track included second place finishes by Matt Dvorak in the 55-meter dash (6.63) and 200-meter dash (23.07), Grant Rorum in the 55-meter hurdles (8.27) as well as the 4 x 400-meter relay (3:30.39), and the distance medley relay (11:34.42) teams. Jay Rogotzke finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.80 seconds, and Matt Flotterud added a third-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.30 seconds.

In the field events, Carl Stenoien (second) and Cameron Clause (third) joined Owens on the podium in the pole vault, as both posted marks of 13.06 feet. Stenoien added another second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20.6 feet. Mark Stice took second place in the weight throw (49.41 feet), while Ryan Obele finished third in both weight throw (45.44 feet) and shot put (45.24 feet).

Other teams competing at the meet included Carleton (115 points), Luther (113), Augsburg (92), and Macalester (21).

The Gustavus men’s track and field team will continue its indoor season at the Saint John’s Triangular on Saturday, February 19, in Collegeville, Minn.
