The Gustavus volleyball team saw its 2010 season come to a close with a 3-1 loss to Saint Mary’s in Winona on Saturday afternoon.  The set scores were 25-18, 13-25, 24-26, 20-25.  Angela Ahrendt set a school record for attack percentage in a four-set match at .694 with 14 kills in 19 attempts and 1 error.

The Gusties used an 8-1 run in the middle of the first set to pull away and post a 25-18 victory.  The Cardinals, who were battling for seeding in the MIAC Playoffs, rebounded to win the next three sets and claim the match.

In the third set, the Gusties battled back from a 24-20 deficit to tie the score at 24-24, but the Cardinals scored the next two points to take a 2-1 lead in sets by the score of 26-24.

In the fourth set, Gustavus jumped out to an early 9-7 lead, but Saint Mary’s countered with a 5-0 run to take a 12-9 lead.  The Gusties were not able to get closer than two points the rest of the set and the Cardinals closed out the match with a 25-20 victory.

Angela Ahrendt had a record breaking night for Gustavus as the junior middle hitter from Roseville set a school record for attack percentage in a four-set match at .694 with 14 kills in 19 attempts and 1 error.  Ahrendt was also very strong defensively as she registered two solo blocks and eight block assists in the match.
