Ben Ceder

The Gustavus men’s soccer team tied St. Olaf 1-1 in Northfield on Saturday afternoon.  The Gusties took a 1-0 lead when Ben Ceder scored in the 75th minute.  The Oles tied the score just two minutes later when Logan Rathjen tallied the equalizer.  Neither team was able to score in the final 13 minutes of regulation play or the 20 minutes of overtime.

“We knocked around the pitch quite nicely.  It was fun to watch,” commented Coach Mike Middleton.  He added, “We did everything we could have possibly done between the goal lines, but we are still unable to finish when we create quality chances.”

Goalkeeper Luke Strom registered one save.  Gustavus outshot St. Olaf 14-9, including a 10-4 advantage in the second half.

Gustavus is now 3-3-3 overall and 1-1-3 in league play, while St. Olaf is 3-4-4 overall and 1-1-3 in MIAC play. The Gusties will host Simpson in a non-conference match on Sunday at 4 pm.
