Gymnastics Places Third At UW-La Crosse Triangular Posted on February 19th, 2010 by

Sam Opsahl finished in fifth on the vault (9.175)

The Gustavus gymnastics team compiled 165.425 points to take third place at the UW-La Crosse Triangular held in La Crosse, Wisc. on Friday night.  UW-La Crosse won the meet with 181.775 points, as Winona State placed second with 178.150 points.  Danielle Thibodeau and Sam Opsahl were the top Gustavus performers in the meet.  Thibodeau placed third in the all-around with a score of 33.500, while Opsahl finished fifth on the vault with a mark of 9.175.

Winona State’s Heather Rummelein won the all-around with a score of 36.150, as Courtney Gonzales of UW-La Crosse placed second at 36.025.  UW-La Crosse’s Kelsey Matula won both the uneven parallel bars (9.225) and balance beam (9.350).  Other individual event wins came from UW-La Crosse’s Gabi Hooper on the vault (9.600), and Winona State’s Anna Gleason on the floor (9.525).

Other Gustavus top ten finishers included Kristeena Patsche in ninth place on the vault (9.050), Shelby Winzent in tenth on the bars (8.150), Thibodeau in tenth on the beam (8.650), and Sam Opsahl in tenth on the floor (9.050).

Gustavus registered individual event scores of 44.425 on the vault, 37.025 on the bars, 40.450 on the beam, and 43.525 on the floor.  UW-La Crosse scored a 46.600 on the vault, 44.525 on the bars, 44.350 on the beam, and a 46.300 on the floor.  Winona State marked a 45.550 on the vault, 42.450 on the bars, 44.800 on the beam, and a 45.350 on the floor.

The Gustavus gymnastics team will hit the mats next on Saturday, Feb. 27th, in a dual meet against UW-Whitewater at 2:00 pm in Whitewater, Wisc.
