Thibodeau Shines As Gymnastics Team Drops Dual To Winona State Posted on January 21st, 2010 by

Danielle Thibodeau placed first on the bars with a score of 8.775

First-year gymnast Danielle Thibodeau posted a 36.350 in the all-around as the Gustavus gymnastics team fell 175.200-170.625 to Winona State University Thursday night on the Lund Center Forum in St. Peter, Minn.  Thibodeau led the Gusties with first place finishes on the uneven parallel bars (8.775), balance beam (9.050), and floor exercise (9.250), while finishing second on the vault (9.275).

The Gusties recorded individual event scores of 44.950 on the vault, 39.325 on the bars, 41.625 on the beam, and 44.725 on the floor.  Winona State registered 45.425 on the vault, 41.725 on the bars, 43.450 on the beam, and 44.600 on the floor.  Winona State’s top performer was Heather Rummelien who placed first on the vault at 9.300.  Rummelien was followed by Anna Gleason with second place finishes on the floor (9.125) and bars (8.625).

Other top performers for Gustavus were Kelly Mathewson and Samantha Opsahl.  Mathewson placed second in the all-around with a score of 34.975, while adding third place finishes on the vault (9.125) and bars (8.600).  Opsahl placed third on the floor with a mark of 9.100.

The Gustie gymnasts will travel to Menominee, Wis. on Friday, January 29 to face UW-Stout in a dual meet.  Opening events are scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
