The Gustavus volleyball team finished day two of the Gustavus Classic Tournament with a 1-1 record, and an overall tournament record of 3-1. In the first match of the day, the Gusties defeated York College 3-0. The scores for the match were 25-13, 25-18, and 25-10. The Gusties lost their second game of the day to the Falcons from UW-River Falls by a score of 2-3. The scoring for the match was 25-18. 16-25. 25-21, 20-25, and 11-15. Gustavus moves to 6-4 overall on the season after the two day tournament.

In the first set, Gustavus was tied early at 4-4 when Meghan Gehring spiked the ball off of the assist from Sam Broderius. The kill sparked a 21-9 run that ended with Gustavus claiming the first set 25-13. Gustavus took control right from the start of the second set and never trailed at any point. Malea Noennig chipped in four assists in the set, while Janey Helland added three kills. During the third set, Gustavus recorded an attack percentage of .579 on its 13 kills, and for the second straight set, never trailed in the frame on its way to a 25-10 victory.

Gustavus was led on the attack in the first game by Meghan Gehring who registered eight kills. Noennig had 16 assists for the Gusties, and Jenny Ewert led the defense with 11 digs.

In the second match of the day, Gustavus fell to UW-River Falls by a score of 2-3. The Gusties came out strong in the first set, and for the third time in two games, led from start to finish. Gustavus had 17 kills, and capped it off with back-to-back kills by Olivia Warren to give the set to the Gusties at 25-18. In the second set, Gustavus fell behind early by a score of 4-5 and was unable to come back. The Falcons let the lead slide to 16-18 but then went on a 7-0 run, and took the set at 16-25. The third and fourth sets were similar to the first two, with Gustavus taking the third set with 11 kills, but falling in the fourth after trailing for much of the game. In the fifth and deciding set, the Gusties went point-for-point with the Falcons up to the 6-6 mark, but the game slowly slipped away. The Gusties kept it close and were within two points for much match, but lost as River Falls maintained momentum from the fourth set and went on to win 15-11.

Four Gusties recorded double-digit kills in the game. Helland led the team with 14 and was followed by Gehring with 13, Angela Ahrendt with 11, and Olivia Warren with 10. Noennig was all over the court, as she totaled 27 assists and 11 digs. Also with double-digit dig totals were Ewert and Nicki Ainsworth who each had 15.

Gustavus plays next on September 16, at 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul, at Macalester College.
