Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Break Trip With 5-4 Loss To Redlands Posted on March 24th, 2009 by

The Gustavus women’s tennis team dropped the first match of its Spring Break trip to Southern California losing a heartbreaker to the University of Redlands by the score of 5-4. The Gusties led 2-1 after doubles, but lost four of six singles matches to allow the Bulldogs to escape with the 5-4 victory. The Gusties will face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at 7 pm (CDT). Gustavus is now 9-6 overall on the season.

2. Paige Sumida (UR) defeated Samantha Frank (GA) 6-0, 6-2
3. Tori Damiani (UR) defeated Megan Gaard (GA) 6-0, 6-3
4. Sara Yoshinaga (UR) defeated Ali O’Neal (GA) 6-4, 3-6, 6-0
5. Kaleena Wakamatshu (UR) defeated Erica Dobson (GA) 6-4, 6-2
6. Marianne Barau (GA) defeated Whitney Waters (UR) 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (retired)

Doubles
1. Sumida/Waters (UR) defeated Krebsbach/Frank (GA) 9-7
2. Gaard/Barau (GA) defeated Yoshimaga/Wakamatsu (RU) 8-2
3. Dobson/O’Neal (GA) defeated Miller/Damiani (UR) 8-4
