Women’s Basketball Team Outscores Bethel 13-5 Over Final Nine Minutes To Claim 56-44 Victory

The Gustavus women's basketball team broke open a tight game with an 11-2 run over a seven-minute stretch late in the second half to post a 56-44 win over Bethel on Wednesday night at Gus Young Court in St. Peter. Bri Radtke turned in a strong all-around performance for the Gusties as she scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists. Gustavus improves to 16-8 overall and 14-7 in the MIAC.

Men’s Basketball Falters Late In 87-72 Loss At Bethel

The Gustavus men's basketball team pulled to within three points with six minutes left in the game, but were unable to hit key baskets down the stretch as the Gusties fell 87-72 to Bethel on Wednesday night in Arden Hills. After a three-point play by Sam Paulson made the score 66-63, the Royals scored eight unanswered points over the next two minutes en route to the win. Gustavus was led by Jesse Van Sickle's career-high 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting.

Men’s And Women’s Swimming And Diving Teams Prepare To Defend Titles At MIAC Championships

The Gustavus men's and women's swimming and diving teams will defend their conference titles this weekend at the MIAC Championships which are being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. The Gustie men have won six of the last seven league titles, while the women have the past two titles. The meet, which Thursday through Saturday, features preliminary events in the morning sessions and finals during the evening sessions each day.

Women’s Hockey Battles UW-Stevens Point To 0-0 Draw

The Gustavus women's hockey team battled the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for 65 minutes, but neither team could get the puck in the net and the result was a 0-0 tie. The two long-time regional rivals had played to a 2-2 tie in St. Peter early in January. The Gusties extended their nation's longest unbeaten streak to 22 games.

Laura Hansen Named WIAC Gymnastics Specialist Of The Week

Gustavus Adolphus senior gymnast Laura Hansen (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Gymnastics Specialist of the Week for the week ending February 15, 2009. Hansen turned in scores of 9.650 on the balance beam and 9.200 on the uneven parallel bars at the Best of Minnesota meet in Minneapolis on February 14.

Men’s Tennis Set To Host ITA Division III Indoor Championship Feb. 20-22

Gustavus Adolphus College is set to host the ninth annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Division III Indoor Championship at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter, Minnesota. Eight of the top 15 teams in Division III tennis will play off to determine the 2009 ITA National Indoor Champion. The four-time ITA Indoor champions Golden Gusties will defend their 2008 title as the #6 seed entering the tournament.

Jeff Annis, Sara Medved Inducted Into Minnesota Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Current Gustavus softball coach Jeff Annis and former Gustavus softball player Sara Medved Smude were inducted into the Minnesota Softball Coaches Hall of Fame on Thursday, February 5 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Annis has been the head coach at Gustavus since the 2006 season, while Medved-Smude was a pitcher for the Gusties from 2002 until 2004.

Gustavus Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive Teams Named To CSCSAA Academic Team Honor Roll

The College Swimming Coaches Association (CSCAA) released its Academic Team Honor Roll last week and both the Gustavus men's and women's swimming teams were honored by the CSCAA. The women compiled a team gpa of 3.28 which was 37th best in Division III. The men compiled a team gpa of 3.15 which was 25th best in Division III.

Men’s Nordic Ski Team Struggles In 10K Classic Race At Camp Ripley

The Gustavus men's nordic ski team had a rough first day at the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) 10K Classic race which was held at Camp Ripley near Little Falls, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties, who placed eighth out of nine teams at the race, were led by sophomore Jens Brabbit, who finished 22nd (out of 60) with a time of 28:11. The team will take part in the 10K Freestyle race on Sunday.

Jens Brabbit, Anders Bowman Lead Nordic Ski Team At CCSA Freestyle Race At Camp Ripley

The Gustavus men's nordic ski team wrapped up its weekend of skiing at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minn. with a solid team performance in the 20K Freestyle race. Jens Brabbit paced the Gusties with a 12th place finish in a time of 48:34, while Anders Bowman finished 14th in a time of 48:46.
