Siobhan Finicane of Pomona-Pitzer outlasted Cary Gibson of Williams 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 to be crowned the 2008 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Singles Champion on Sunday afternoon at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.
Finicane was ahead 5-2 in the second set before Gibson battled back to win the second set 7-5. Finicane regained the momentum when she broke Gibson in the first service game of the third set. From that point, Finicane took control of the match to be the first player from Pomona-Pitzer since 1994 to win the singles title.
