The Gustavus men’s swimming and diving team will send eight competitors to the NCAA Championships which will take place Thursday through Saturday at the Miami of Ohio University Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio hosted by the College of Wooster. Matt Stewart, Ben Hanson, and Skylar Davis qualified automatically for the national meet in individual events.
The eight swimmers representing Gustavus includes Clem Auyeung (Jr., North Mankato, Minn.), Skylar Davis (So., Palatine, Ill.), Whitaker Davis (Fy., Palatine, Ill.), Ben Hanson (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.), Dave Pearson (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.), Matt Stewart (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.), Tyler Wakefield (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.), and Connor Ziegler (Sr., Sauk Rapids, Minn.).
The Gusties have five swimmers seeded in the top 16 in nine events. They also have two relay teams that are seeded in the top 12. Matt Stewart leads the way as he is seeded first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:26.16, fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.99, and 16th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:52.36. Ben Hanson will compete against Stewart in all three events, as Hanson is seeded fourth in the 200 butterfly and seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:40.83) and the the 500 freestyle (4:33.02). In addition, Connor Ziegler is seeded ninth in the 100 butterfly (50.11), Skylar Davis is seeded 10th in the 1650 freestyle (15.51.23), and Whitaker Davis is seeded 13th in the 1650 freestyle (15:53.40).
In the relays, the 800 free relay team of Stewart, Pearson, S. Davis, and Hanson is seeded fifth with a time of 6:48.49, while the 400 free relay team of Auyeung, Wakefield, Stewart, and Hanson is seeded 11th with a time of 3:04.52.
