Gymnastics Team Places Third At UW-La Crosse Triangular With A Score of 174.825 Posted on February 29th, 2008 by

The Gustavus gymnastics team wrapped up its regular season schedule by posting a score of 174.825 at the UW-La Crosse Triangular. The host Eagles finished first with a score of 183.975, UW-Eau Claire placed second at 176.325, and Gustavus finished third at 174.825. Junior Laura Hansen turned in the top performance for the Gusties as she tied for second on the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.250.

The Gusties posted individual event scores of 44.175 on the vault, 43.475 on the uneven parallel bars, 43.250 on the balance beam, and 43.925 on the floor exercise.

Individually, five Gustavus gymnasts posted scores of 9.0 or higher including Laura Hansen, who finished second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.250, Aryn Bell, who placed eighth on the vault with a score of 9.250, Melanie Deutsch, who placed 10th on the vault with a score of 9.050, Jennifer Berglund, who placed eighth on the floor exercise with a score of 9.10, and Jaime Tsurasaki, who placed ninth on the floor exercise with a score of 9.025.

Other top finishes included Tsurasaki placing fourth on the balance beam (8.95) and Christine Askham finishing seventh on the uneven parallel bars (8.95).

Gustavus will compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet next Saturday at Hamline. The meet also serves as the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association West Regional meet and the top three teams qualify for the NCGA Championships which will take place March 28-29 in Cortland, New York.
