Men’s Hockey Defeats St. Olaf 6-1 To Claim First Conference Sweep of the Season

The Gustavus men's hockey team exploded for four goals in the second period on its way to a convincing 6-1 win over St. Olaf in Northfield on Saturday night. The win allowed the Gusties to claim their first series sweep in conference play this season and improve to 6-4-0 overall and 4-2-0 in MIAC play. Eric Bigham led the Gustavus attack with two goals, while Josh Swartout made 12 saves and picked up the win in the nets.

Five-Goal Second Period Gives Women’s Hockey 7-2 Win Over St. Olaf

Stefanie Ubl (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) scored two goals in less than 1:30 in the second period as the Gustavus women's hockey team used a scoring flurry during the decisive period to defeat St. Olaf 7-2 on Saturday night in Northfield, Minn. The Gusties extended their current winning streak over MIAC teams to 14 games dating back to February 3, 2007 with the victory.

Men’s Hockey Scores Twice In Third Period, Claims 4-2 Win Over St. Olaf

The Gustavus men's hockey scored twice in a three-minute span midway through the third period allowing the Gusties to claim a 4-2 win over St. Olaf at home on Friday evening. Josh Pauer was credited with the game-winner at the 9:37 mark and Niko Suoraniemi gave the Gusties some breathing room with a goal at the 12:04 mark. Matt Lopes picked up the win in the nets. Gustavus is now 5-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the MIAC.

Women’s Hockey Uses High Scoring First Period To Defeat St. Olaf 6-1

Three first-period goals helped Gustavus cruise to a 6-1 conference win over St. Olaf Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. Molly Doyle (Sr., Richfield, Minn.) scored the first goal of the game at 9:42, while Jenny Pusch (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) scored short-handed and power play goals during the period. Gustavus raised its record to 7-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the MIAC, as St. Olaf fell to 2-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in league play.

Strong Freestyle Swimming Results Improve Ranks In MIAC Top Times

Strong performances in the freestyle events at the Carthage Invitational last weekend in Kenosha, Wis. improved the number of top MIAC times held by Gustavus swimmers. Skylar Davis (So., Palatine, Ill.) now holds the fastest MIAC times in the 500 freestyle (4:38.92), the 1000 freestyle (9:46.41), and the 1650 freestyle (16:18.19). Carrie Gundersen (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) now owns the top MIAC times in four events, including the 200 freestyle (2:00.21),

Men’s Basketball Rides Hot Shooting to 77-70 Win At Saint John’s

The Gustavus men's basketball team shot 68.0 percent from the field in the first half (15-22) and 58.3 percent for the game (28-48) on its way to an important 77-70 MIAC road win at Saint John's on Wednesday night. Balanced scoring was once again a key for Gustavus as four players reached double figures including Trevor Wittwer with 17, Jesse Van Sickle and Sam Paulson with 15, and Kane Sivesind with 13. Van Sickle was 5-of-7 from three-point range.

Emily Nelson scored a team-high 13 points. 

Balanced Attack Leads Women’s Basketball Past Saint Benedict 70-62

Strong second half shooting helped the Gustavus women's basketball team pick up a big MIAC win over Saint Benedict 70-62 on Wednesday night at Gus Young Court in St. Peter. Three Golden Gusties scored in double-digits in the most balanced scoring attack of the season as Gustavus shot a season-high 52% from the field. The Gusties improved their record to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in conference, while the Blazers dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC.

Men’s Basketball Gets Defensive in 69-55 Win Over Bethel

The Gustavus men's basketball turned up the defensive pressure in the second half limiting Bethel to only 17 points in the final 20 minutes and pulling away for an impressive 69-55 conference win at Gus Young Court in St. Peter. Balanced scoring was again a key for the Gusties as four players reached double figures including Jesse Van Sickle with 15, Trevor Wittwer with 11, and Sam Paulson and Ryan McPartland with 10 each.

Strong First Half Propels Women’s Basketball Past Bethel 83-77

History did not repeat itself as the Gustavus women's basketball team withstood a second-half rally from Bethel to hang on for a 83-77 win on Wednesday night in Arden Hills. The Golden Gusties entered halftime with a 43-24 lead and was able to hold off the lone unbeaten team in the MIAC to improve the squad's record to 2-1 overall and in conference play. Bethel suffered its first loss of the season dropping to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC.

Men’s Hockey Struggles In 5-2 Loss at Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus men's hockey team continued its inconsistent play with a disappointing 5-2 loss against Saint Mary's on Saturday night in Winona. The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Gusties rallied to cut the lead to 4-2 after two periods. Saint Mary's scored the only goal in the third period to claim the 5-2 win.
