Gustavus forward Mike Butterworth (Sr., Katy, Tex.) has been named the MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week as voted on by league coaches. Butterworth scored a goal in both MIAC Post-Season games this week, helping the Gusties claim their second consecutive conference tournament title and earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Butterworth scored the game-winning goal against St. Thomas with 1:20 remaining for a 2-1 victory in the semifinals. His 13th goal of the season came two minutes after the Tommies tied the match at 1-1. In the championship game, Butterworth scored his 14th goal of the season at 78:47 to seal a 2-0 victory over St. Olaf.

Butterworth has scored 14 goals and recorded three assists for 31 points this season to lead the Gusties in points. With both goals, Butterworth now ranks 10th on the all-time scoring list at Gustavus with 65 points.

Gustavus (16-3-1) will face Whitworth (14-3-1) in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday, November 9 at 5:00 pm in Oshkosh, Wis.
