Men’s Soccer Falls to UW-Oshkosh 2-0 Posted on September 9th, 2007 by

The Gustavus men’s soccer team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end with a 2-0 loss to UW-Oshkosh in Oshkosh on Sunday afternoon. The Titans scored a goal midway through each half to remain unbeaten on the season. UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen stymied the Gustie offense by making eight saves to record the shutout.

Will Howell struck for UW-Oshkosh at the 22:33 mark unassisted on a direct kick. The Titans struck again at 66:30 in the second half with a header from Brian Miller on a pass from Paul Beach and Adam Grant. Both teams played a physical match earning 14 fouls a piece. Gustavus was not without its opportunities though holding a 7-4 edge in corner kicks and 8-4 edge on shots on goal.

First-year goalkeeper Luke Strom suffered the loss making two saves on four shots on goal. Gustavus has not ever defeated UW-Oshkosh in eight all-time matches. The two rivals battled to a 1-1 tie last year.

Gustavus will open conference play Wednesday, September 12 at home against St. Olaf at 4:00 pm.
