Sophomore Bret Vander Streek scored the game-winning goal

The Gustavus men’s soccer team kept its’ shutout streak alive by defeating St. Norbert 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Sophomore Bret Vander Streek scored the lone goal for the Gusties but that was enough for Coach Zelenz’s squad to record the victory. Senior Trevor Brown got his second shutout of the season making seven saves.

Vander Streek (Pella, IA) scored at the 78:52 mark on a pass from senior Dane Obermeyer (Los Alamos, NM) to break the tension of a scoreless tie. The match was a physical one as Gustavus committed 16 fouls and St. Norbert had eight. Four yellow cards were issued with both teams receiving two each.

Brown (Madison, WI) continued stellar goalkeeper play by making seven saves on ten shots to record the third consecutive shutout for the Gustie netminders.

Gustavus will next face-off against the UW-Oshkosh Titans Sunday at 2:30 pm. The Gusties will open MIAC conference play Wednesday, September 12 at 4:00 against St. Olaf for their home-opener.
