Gustavus Adolphus College senior centerfielder Tony Konicek (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Position Player of the Week for the week ending April 8, 2007. Konicek, the reigning conference MVP, was 6-for-9 (.667) with three doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI as the Gusties recorded a doubleheader split with St. Thomas on April 2.

Konicek was 4-for-5 in game one’s 3-2, ten-inning loss with two doubles, a run and an RBI. In game two’s 6-3 win over the Tommies, Konicek was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored at the plate and also recorded a pair of outs.

Konicek, a management major, is the son of Denis and Tammy Konicek of Rochester and a 2003 graduate of Mayo High School.

Stats for the Week: 6-for-9 hitting (.667), 3 2Bs, 2 RS, 1 RBI, 3 PO, 1.000 slug%.
