The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team sits tenth after the first day of the Oglethorpe/Royal Lakes Fall Classic at Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch, Ga. Led by Mark Stuckey‘s 73, the Gusties posted an 18-hole team score of 308. The 12-team field includes top six teams in the nation and four other ranked in the top 25 of the Golf Coaches Association of America/Bridgestone Division III Coaches Poll.

Defending NCAA Division III champion and top-ranked Methodist (N.C.) leads the 12-team field with a 290. #2 Guilford (N.C.), #3 Emory (Ga.), and #4 Huntingdon (Ala.) are each four shots back at 294, while #5 Rhodes (Tenn.) and #8 Oglethorpe (Ga.) are tied for fifth at 300.

Erik Tone (Sr., Willmar, Minn.) and Eric Harris (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) each fired first-round 78s for the Gusties, while Jordan Hawkinson (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.) and Ricky Copeland (Fy., Mahtomedi, Minn.) rounded out the Gustavus team with a pair of 79s.

Play concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
