Men’s Golf Closes Fall Season With Tenth Place Finish at Oglethorpe Invitational Posted on October 31st, 2006 by

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team closed out its fall season with a tenth place finish at the Oglethorpe/Royal Lakes Fall Classic at Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch, Ga. The Gusties followed up Monday’s 308 with a team score of 307 on Tuesday. Defending NCAA Division III champion Methodist took the team title by eight strokes over host Oglethorpe after shooting 290-295–585. The 12-team field featured 10 teams ranked in the most recent Golf Coaches Association of America/Bridgestone Division III Coaches Poll.

Senior Erik Tone (Willmar, Minn.) fired a second-round 72 Tuesday to finish as the highest placed Gustie in a tie for 21st at 78-72–150. Junior Jordan Hawkinson (Lindstrom, Minn.) also fired a 72 to finish one shot back of Tone in a tie for 27th at 79-72–151. Monday’s low Gustie, junior Mark Stuckey (St. Peter, Minn.), was unable to put together a matching round Tuesday and finished in a tie for 32nd at 73-79–152.

Eric Harris (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.)
shot 78-84–162 to finish in a tie for 54th, while Ricky Copeland (Fy., Mahtomedi, Minn.) rounded out the Gusties scoring with a score of 79-88–167.

Gustavus will not compete again until Spring 2007.
