Women’s Soccer Downs Pipers 4-0 Posted on October 23rd, 2005 by

Sophomore forward Jenna Iaizzo (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and first-year midfielder Christy Tupy (Eagan, Minn.) each netted a pair of goals as the Gustavus women’s soccer team registered a 4-0 victory over Hamline on Saturday in St. Paul.

Iaizzo tallied the first goal of the day in the 21st minute to give the Gusties the 1-0 lead. That lead would stand until the 66:04 mark when Tupy her first of the day. Her second would come just ten minutes later with an assist by junior midfielder Amy Larson (Bloomington, Minn.). Iaizzo capped the scoring in the 86th minute with her second unassisted goal of the day.

Gustavus outshot the Pipers 21-8 during the contest. Gustie keeper Tori Boughton (Sr., Edina, Minn.) took the win in goal, registering three saves. Her Piper counterpart, Andrea Eilertson, picked up six saves and the loss.

With her two goals on the day, Tupy moved into a tie with Larson for the team lead in goals with four.

The last time Gustavus had a pair of multiple goal scorers was Nov. 9, 2002. Renee Beaudry scored three goals, while Cynthia Lee added another pair in an 8-0 victory over Hamline.

The Gusties improve to 5-10-1 on the season, 2-6-1 in the MIAC. Hamline drops to 7-9 overall, 2-8 in the MIAC. Gustavus will travel to Augsburg on Wednesday for another MIAC tilt, before closing out their 2005 campaign with a home match with Bethel on Friday, Oct. 28. Hamline finishes their MIAC schedule on Tuesday with a road test at St. Olaf. The Pipers will face UW-Eau Claire in St. Paul in their season finale on Saturday, Oct. 29.
