Women’s Soccer Falls to UW-Eau Claire 1-0 Posted on September 21st, 2005 by

The Gustavus women’s soccer team lost to UW-Eau Claire in Eau Claire on Wednesday afternoon 1-0. The Blugolds outshot the Gusties 13-3 and held a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks. Gustavus is now 3-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the MIAC.

The two teams played to a 0-0 draw in the first half although UW-Eau Claire outshot Gustavus 6-2 and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Gustie netminder Tori Boughton kept the team in the match with six saves.

The second half was controlled by the Blugolds and they broke the 0-0 tie with a goal by Nicki Pigeon at the 68:01 mark. An assist was credited to Liz Kooistra. UW-Eau Claire held a 7-1 shot advantage in the second half, while taking eight corner kicks to none for the Gusties.

Boughton, who was credited with the loss, made 12 saves for the Gusties. Callie Christensen, Samantha Engh, and Kristy Tupy recorded shots on goal for Gustavus.

The Gusties will host MIAC opponent Saint Benedict on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
