Men’s Golf Comes From Behind to Win Buena Vista Classic Posted on April 16th, 2005 by

Gustavus Adolphus College came from eight strokes down to win the Buena Vista University men’s golf classic on Saturday. The 36-hole tournament concluded with Saturday’s round at the Lake Creek country club.

Gustavus shot a 292 on Saturday to win the tournament by one stroke over Indian Hills Community College. Gustavus finished with a two-day total of 583. Indian Hills, which shot a 297 on Saturday, placed second with a two-day total of 584. Nebraska Wesleyan University, who had held a first-day lead, finished third with 591 strokes after firing a 308 on Saturday.

Brad Smith of Indian Hills won the individual competition with a two-day total of 138. He carded a 72 on Saturday to go along with his first-round score of 66 to win the invitational by four strokes. Senior Brady Hoffman led the Gusties with a fourth place finish. Hoffman shot a 36-hole total of 73-71–144.

Gustavus will return to action on Monday, April 18 when they host 13 teams at the Gustie Spring Invite. Monday’s round will be played at LeSueur Country Club, while Tuesday’s round will be played at the Ridges at Sand Creek.
