Men’s Track & Field Places Sixth at Washington University Select Meet Posted on April 11th, 2005 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s track and field team compiled 73.5 points to place sixth out of nine teams at the Washington University Select Meet. The meet took place on Saturday, April 9 in St. Louis, Missouri. Central College (Pella, Iowa) won the meet scoring 129 points.

The Gusties won two individual events on Saturday. Senior James Sorenson (Hastings, Minn.) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:40.59, which set a meet record. Senior Alex Kestly (Chisolm, Minn.) placed first in the discus throw. Kestly recorded a distance of 144′ 7″ to finish 4′ 2″ ahead of second place. The senior also placed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 148′ 7″.

Other top finishers were junior Jack Henkemeyer (Plymouth, Minn.), freshman Drew Hood (Mankato, Minn.), sophomore Andy Klaers (Delano, Minn.) and sophomore Tanner Miest (New London, Minn.). Henkemeyer placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.60, while Hood finished third in the pole vault clearing a height of 14′.

Klaers recorded two top ten finishes on Saturday in the discus and hammer throw. The sophomore placed third in the discus with a distance of 138′ 9″ and placed ninth in the hammer throw with a distance of 143′.

Miest recorded a time of 15.51 in the 110-meter hurdles to place third overall.

The Gusties will be back in action next weekend when they host the fifth annual Lee Krough Invitational.
