Gustavus Adolphus College senior forward Joe Ulwelling (Warroad, Minn.) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday, February 28. Ulwelling tallied five points in the conference series split with Augsburg College this past weekend, which helped Gustavus secure the fifth and final MIAC playoff spot. The senior recorded one assist in Friday night’s 7-4 loss in Minneapolis. The forward added four assists in Saturday night’s 6-2 victory over Augsburg in St. Peter, which ensured Gustavus’ fourth consecutive playoff appearance.

Ulwelling has recorded two goals and 15 assists for 17 points this season and played in his 100th career game for Gustavus on Friday night against Augsburg. In Saturday night’s game against the Auggies, Ulwelling became the 31st Gustavus men’s hockey player to compile over 100 career points. He is 30th on the list with 39 goals and 63 assists for 102 points.

Gustavus finished the regular season with an overall record of 10-14-1 and 7-8-1 in the MIAC. The Gusties will travel to Northfield, Minn. on Tuesday, March 1 to play number four seed St. Olaf College in the first round game of the MIAC Playoffs. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30pm. Gustavus leads the all-time series against St. Olaf 49-19-2; however, the Oles swept the Gusties earlier this season.
