Women’s Swimming Places Second at Carthage Invite Posted on December 5th, 2004 by

The Gustavus women’s swimming team competed at the Carthage Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin December 3-4. The Gusties tallied 698.50 team points to place second overall and 32 points ahead of conference rival St. Olaf (666.50). Saint Cloud State University won the invitational with 1,017 team points.

In the relay events, the team of Katherine Haynes, Eva Miller, Katie Garvey and Beth DeLaRosby won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.92. The team of DeLaRosby, Garvey, Miller and Laura Watkins placed second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:38.09. In the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Haynes, Miller, Garvey and DeLaRosby placed third with a time 3.40.82.

Beth DeLaRosby was the lone individual to claim an event title for Gustavus. DeLaRosby recorded a time of 24.31 to win the 50 freestyle. DeLaRosby also recorded a fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.01 and a sixth place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.47.

Katie Garvey picked up top ten finishes in three different events. Garvey placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:58.87), ninth in the 100 butterfly (1:03.21) and fifth in the 50 freestyle (25.10). Katherine Haynes picked up two top five finishes over the weekend. Haynes placed fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:14.53) and also placed fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.44).

The Gusties will return to action January 15 when they host MIAC opponent Carleton College.
