Konicek and Schmidt Named to the Baseball Minnesota 2004 College Team Posted on July 15th, 2004 by

Gustavus Adolphus College baseball players Tony Konicek (First-year, Rochester, Minn.) and Andy Schmidt (Sophomore, Lakeville, Minn.) have been named to the Baseball Minnesota 2004 “College Team Minnesota”. Baseball Minnesota is a statewide baseball publication that aims to recognize the great players Minnesota has to offer. Selections are made by an independent panel and based on the 2004 season only. To be eligible, the player has to have been born in or played high school baseball in Minnesota.

Konicek, a 2003 Rochester-Mayo High School graduate, has been named to the second team “College Team Minnesota”. He had a remarkable year finishing second in runs scored (24) and hits (34) in league play to earn
all-conference honors in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The right fielder compiled a batting average of .430 and had a seventh place finish in slugging percentage with .722. The American Baseball Coaches Association also named Konicek to the first-team All-Midwest Region. Tony is the son of Tammy Konicek from Rochester, Minnesota.

Schmidt, a 2002 Lakeville High School graduate, has also been named to the second team “College Team Minnesota”. The pitcher had a commendable year on the mound for the Gusties. Schmidt posted a record of 4-2 making 16 appearances (15 in relief) for Gustavus. The sophomore compiled a 2.76 earned run average and finished the season with a .667 winning percentage. Andy is the son of Amy and Gary Schmidt of Lakeville, Minnesota.
