Men’s Track & Field Places Fifth in the Carleton Relays Posted on April 18th, 2004 by

The Gustavus men’s track & field team traveled to Northfield, Minn. to compete in the Carleton Relays on Saturday. The Gusties recorded 71.6 points and placed fifth overall.

Sophomore Jack Henkemeyer (Plymouth, Minn.) placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.99. In the 400-meter dash, senior Stephen Handler (Shellsburg, Iowa) recorded a time of 50.41 to place fourth overall.

The Gusties won three of the six relay races on Saturday. Adam Cordes (Senior, Byron, Minn.), Anthony Schulzetenberg (Freshman, Greenwald, Minn.), Matt Diercks (Senior, Red Wing, Minn.) and Jack Henkemeyer recorded a time of 42.43 to win the 4×100-meter relay. Stephen Handler, Adam Caulfield (Freshman, Woodbury, Minn.), Henkemeyer and Schulzetenberg won the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:29.22. Drew Scanlan (Senior, New Orleans, Minn.), Frank Hedin (Freshman, Duluth, Minn.), Alex Zupan (Freshman, Monona, Wisc.) and Luke Twedt (Senior, Hastings, Minn.) won the 4×1600-meter relay with a time of 18:47.68.

In the field events, Alex Kestley (Junior, Chisholm, Minn.) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 161′ 10″. Andy Klaers (Freshman, Delano, Minn.) threw a distance of 151′ to place fourth in the discus throw.

Gustavus will host the Drake Alternative next Saturday in St. Peter, Minn.
